The Digi Art Festival came forth out of a collective of with several digital design studios based at Design Hub Kampala that together with 3 other studios formed TRIBE Uganda.
The festival was created to bring skills of creatives in animation, comics & video games together under a common objective of uplifting the industry of digital art. The 2017 event attracted about 3000 visitors from all walks of life to come and witness first hand creativity from Uganda finest.
The aim of the DigiArt Fest is to promote collaboration amongst digital content creators and businesses from other sectors and a platform to showcase production processes and techniques.
The Animations and Illustration for Social Change is a programme under the festival which aims at creating social impact. Ten studios from the digital art collective TRIBE Uganda are partnered with five companies, civil society organisations or NGOs to take on a social cause and develop a design-based solution for the challenge undertaken.
The outputs range from an illustration, explainer video, to a comic or an animated short clip.
