From Interior to Furniture and Art Design

Doreen Adengo from Adengo Architecture was one of the first partners and companies to move into our warehouse space at the Design Hub Kampala in 2017.

The company was instrumental in the co-creation design of our space together with a team of Dutch interior designers of “better space; better people” let by architect  Maarten Jamin.

The expertise of Adengo and her knowledge of local materials, Ugandan esthetics as well as KCCA building requirements, combined with Jamin’s international knowledge about the functions of a co-working space, resulted in the unique look and feel of our space.

Frustrated by the high price of imported furniture and unpredictability of locally produced furniture, they decided to design and make their own furniture for the space as well.

In collaboration with a highly skilled local carpenter, they developed simple and affordable desks and storage units for our space. The design caught eye from other space members and soon orders started to come in. Eventually a whole new company emerged from this: Made In Kampala

Adengo has been an active participant in all kind of Design Hub activities as well as the Kampala Art Biennale that took place in the neighboring warehouse complex. For this occasion she designed and constructed one of the master pieces: a spiral shaped artwork titled:  The Library (Studio Bili Bidjocka, Simon Njami)
