09 Nov Creative Talks Africa – Liz Kamugisha
We are back from the Creative Talks Africa break hosted by KQ x Design Hub Kampala. These talks are curated in such a way that they foster Creative conversation and give a safe space for the Creative community to network, collaborate, share ideas, seek mentorship and have fun.
This month, on the theme of “Compassion & Curiosity” we are excited to be hosting Liz Kamugisha – Founder of Ngoma Jam Sessions Liz is a co-founder and drum circle facilitator of Ngoma Jam Sessions, which is a Community Drum Circle that meets every month for drum therapy, in Kampala Uganda.
Ngoma Jam Sessions was created as a safe space to release the stress of everyday life and bottled up emotions that we are not so open to discussing verbally, due to culture and stigma, through the structure of drum therapy and collaborative music creation.
Liz has hosted group drumming sessions with focus on mental health and the many scientifically proven therapeutic benefits of drumming, for 3 years, and has worked with various groups, ranging from corporate wellness retreats to young children with disabilities at developmental centers.
She aims to establish a structure which can be replicated in each town or village center, where drum troupes are able to hold drum circles for their communities, and apply this indigenous form of therapy, to encourage more community inclusion, harmony and wellbeing through using art as therapy.
NOTE: This is a FREE event. There will be some Coffee, Beers, BBQ– on sale.
